Edmonton World Master Games
SRS Kayak and Canoe Rentals For Marathon And Sprint Racing

Introduction

The fees have been developed based on our costs for transporting boats from the Montreal area, including the costs of transport, and the costs of accommodations on route and in Edmonton for the duration of the Canoe/Kayak events. Generally all boats are new and built in carbon or carbon fibreglass construction. The kayaks have easily adjustable footrest and seats and low seats for better balance as well as height adjustable seats. The canoes come with adjustable footrests for back foot support either for the left or right canoeist.

SRS provides fast but generally more stable boats than any other manufacturer in its categories, this being our philosophy and we are currently challenging with this approach even at the elite levels. Some of our boats are based on the latest Struer designs before the ICF width rule change as we had an agreement with Struer to use their hull designs. All SRS boats have taken full advantage of the ICF width rule elimination, and therefore they are narrower, probably somewhat faster as one can paddle closer to the side of the boat, but at least just as stable as the original Struer boats.

We do have several wood Struer boats manufactured in 2001, in new boat condition which we used for making our moulds. EG: Vento K2 High and Low line, K4 Conqueror, Omega C2 and the Evolution K1. These are also available for rent and sale after the WMG as is true of all rental boats.

In addition we have Van Dusen designed boat hulls, the Mohawk and Barracuda as we have an exclusive agreement with Van Dusen for producing boats in Canada in carbon and carbon/fibreglass for North American market.

Rental Fees and Associated Information

The minimum rental duration is for 3 days. Each renter, however, may sublet the rented boat to other masters at WMG, while maintaining responsibility for the condition of the boat. This will permit the renter to have boat(s) for training and competition, but will allow him to rent to other masters to recover part of his fees. We have listed below the daily fees and the suggested hourly fees that the renter can readily charge for sublet.

Rental reservations must be made by 31 of May, 2005, thus allowing for individual boat production, if required, and for transportation. All fees are in CAD. Deposit of one day rental is required with reservation.

Per Day Suggest/ hour or event

Single boat   $75 $25

Tandem   $120 $40

Four   $180 $60

War Canoe   $400 $120

COMMENTS ON SRS BOATS

More detail information regarding the specs and the photos of the boats are available on-line at www.simonriversports.com. These comments are for Masters who may appreciate similarities of SRS boats with other manufacturers that they are familiar with.

Canoes

Vela C1 is the most stable racing and development canoe, probably in the world, but it is a bit slower than Karina, Say 7 to 10 seconds on 500m. It can be used when the stability is important.

Karina C1 is basically a slim line Delta. It is a bit more stable than the Delta because the canoeist does not have to reach as far from the center of the boat to paddle as in the Delta. Therefore the speed may be somewhat faster.

Lynx C1 has same hull as the Struer Armageddon. The same comments as with Karina apply. The Lynx is faster than Karina at speeds over 4.5 meters/ second

Titan C1 is SRS designed boat. It is probably the fastest SRS C1. It is a little wider than the latest Plastex and Nelo C1's and therefore more stable. This boat is currently ongoing more detailed time testing and is in pre-production now.

Note: John Wood, silver medalist at 76 Olympics tested in 2004 the latest Plastex and Nelo boats as well as our Karina, Lynx and Titan over 2000m. All boats except for Titan were within seconds of each other. The Titan was 20 seconds faster over the 2k.

Hydra C2 is based on the Struer Omega hull, but is easier to handle and control as it is narrower, while at least as stable.

Canadian C4 hull is similar to the famous C4 Penequity which won many Canadian championships.

Centurion WC rocker is similar to Peel Marine War Canoe, winner of many Canadian Championships.

Kayaks

Laser K1 Is an excellent development and intermediate K1 suitable for older masters beginning to loose balance and for training event. It meets 18/4" rule, and has good primary and secondary stabilities.

Delphine K1 Has a similar hull as the Laser, but it is narrower and it looks like a racing boat. Many Canadian masters, particularly women use this boat successfully. It also meets training event specs of 18/4" on the water line.

Sirius K1 is similar to the Struer Lancer K1.

Volcan K1 Is based on the Struer Cleaver X Millenium. It is relatively stable and fast. This is the same hull that was used by Knut Holmann up to the 2000 Olympics. The best Canadian Master 50+ paddles in this boat, as well as younger Canadian Masters with success.

Barracuda K1 This boat is similar to the Van Dusen Hawk (up to 70Kg.) Please note that Hawk has been used by Josepa Idem to win a silver medal at the Athens Olympics. It is more stable than the latest Nelo and Plastex boats in the same category.

Mohawk K1 (67 and 85 KG) These two kayaks were designed by Van Dusen. They are now equipped with an under stern rudder due to the rule change. More tippy than Volcan and Barracuda, but faster in tank testing by ½ %.

Sagitta K2 Is based on the Low Line Struer Vento. It is fast and stable. The second seat can be lower, thus improving the team balance.

Phenix K4 Excellent, fast boat is based on the Struer Conqueror, but can be equipped with low seats in position 2 to 4 for better crew balance.

Please note that all SRS boats have probably the best footrests and seat adjustment systems in the world (patents pending,) thus allowing adjustments in seconds which is important for changing crews between races.
