Allo Karen,
Guess what? We've won the Beast of the East. Which means Simon River Sports will be represented on the starting line of the 2006 Adventure Race World Championships next August in Sweden!! We've earned our very coveted free entry for that race thanks to this victory. It was a very long race, more than 750 km in 5 days, we've finished the race in 117 hours, more than 8 hours ahead of ay other team. The weather was extemely bad, we had continuous rain, high winds and abundant snow in higher altitudes of Virginia mountains but it all finished well the last day with perfect blue skies and comfortable temperatures. We had lots of fun, we really enjoyed racing the Beast again this year, they have a great organization with very friendly staff, Joy Marr is always there and the new owner Ronnie Angell is doing a great job. I also think we made a good impression, we were dominant and almost flawless from the start to the end, our great support crew headed by Tanya was collaborative and helpful with everyone and we had fun everywhere we went. You'll also be proud to learn that once again the race started in the water (3rd time this year) and once again we were first out of the water, this time by almost 2 hours (hi hi hi) thanks to our aggressive padding style and an ambitious 7 km portage (!) that saved us almost 25 km of paddling in a bony river. The last leg of the race was also on the water and after more than 110 hours of racing, a mere 7 hours of sleep and an 8 hour lead, our speed on the water was similar to what we did on the first leg!
We're still very much on a high, we'll take a few weeks off after a busy fall season and we'll get back to training with Sweden in mind!
Have a good day!
